Who Is He Trying to Kid?

President Obama wants stuff.

He wants "a country that leads the world in educating its people." But he won't let parents choose which school their kids attend for that purpose.

He wants "an America that attracts a new generation of high-tech manufacturing and high-paying jobs." So he subsidizes union employees working in overregulated, sclerotic, bankrupt companies. He imposes horrendous costs on employers through Obamacare and exempts those very same union employees from his own program. And of course, he doesn't seem to want those high paying jobs to be created by the construction of an oil pipeline.

He wants "a future where we’re in control of our own energy, and our security and prosperity aren’t so tied to unstable parts of the world." But apparently not a future in which we control the choice of which lightbulb we will use or one which allows us to develop or transport the natural resources in North America that would let us reduce the amount by which our security and prosperity depend on the whims of Middle East whack jobs.

He wants "an economy built to last, where hard work pays off, and responsibility is rewarded." So he borrows money from the Chinese at a rate that cannot possibly be sustained, and uses it to subsidize failure at GM, at Chrysler, at Solyndra. He rewards with loan modifications those who borrowed irresponsibly. He wants to impose higher taxes on people whose hard work actually does pay off.
